Preview: El Paso vs. Irvin
El Paso have been homebodies their last two matches, but they are heading out on Friday. They take on Irvin at 7:00 PM. It might come down to the wire as the MaxPreps rankings project a close matchup.
Their game two weeks ago wasn't at all kind to El Paso, but their most recent game may have softened the blow. They were able to grind out a solid victory over Bowie last Friday, winning 31-20. Senior Mario Chavez was the offensive standout of the match for El Paso, as he rushed for 254 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Irvin won against San Elizario two weeks ago with 55 points, and Irvin decided to stick to that point total again. Irvin put a hurting on Jefferson to the tune of 55-10. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Irvin had established a 35-10 advantage.
Their wins bumped Irvin to 4-1 and El Paso to 3-2. El Paso's offensive line will need to gear up for a tough test against a Irvin defensive front that amassed four sacks against Jefferson, so we'll see if they are up to the task.
