Basketball Recap: East Greenwich Comes Up Short

If East Greenwich was feeling good fresh off their 77-54 takedown of Johnston last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The East Greenwich Avengers opened the new year with a less-than-successful 58-49 loss to the Pilgrim Patriots. The Avengers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2021.

Despite the loss, East Greenwich still got an impressive performance from Rees Maccarone, who posted 21 points. Maccarone is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jake Stanger, who earned eight points.

East Greenwich's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Pilgrim, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.

East Greenwich wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 61-55 victory against West Warwick on the 6th. As for Pilgrim, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-53 win against Cranston East on the 6th.
