Softball Recap: Midland Has No Trouble Against Odessa

Midland barely beat Odessa the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Bronchos on Tuesday. Considering the Bulldogs have won 16 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Malayah Carillo tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Baylie Savage and Ryleigh Thiebaud did most of the damage at the plate: Savage went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Thiebaud went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave Thiebaud a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bree Battenfelder, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Midland pushed their record up to 22-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Odessa, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season.

Midland will welcome Permian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Odessa, they will venture away from home to face off against Frenship at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their 15th straight victory, something the Bronchos surely won't give up without a fight.
