Softball Recap: Fountain Inn Drops Highest Score of Season Against Laurens

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fountain Inn). They blew past the Laurens Raiders 23-7 on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Halle Baker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Fountain Inn let Payton Herring and Olivia Lieb run wild. Herring went 4-for-6 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles, while Lieb went 2-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Those three runs gave Herring a new career-high. Mia Anderson was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Fountain Inn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .640. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Fountain Inn is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Laurens, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-6.

Coming up, Laurens will challenge Clinton at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Fountain Inn will be paying especially close attention to the Raiders' game: after the Raiders faces off against the Red Devils, they'll take on Fountain Inn again at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
