Softball Recap: North Putnam Comes Up Short

After flying high against North Montgomery last Saturday, North Putnam came back down to earth. The Cougars fell just short of the Edgewood Mustangs by a score of 3-2 on Friday. The Cougars have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Tori Detro spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, North Putnam saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Camryn Riggle, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

North Putnam's defeat dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Edgewood, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.

North Putnam and Edgewood are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Cougars will challenge South Putnam at 12:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (North Putnam 2.8, the Eagles 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Edgewood, they will face off against Indianapolis Washington at 1:00 p.m. on Monday.
