Basketball Recap: Victory Christian Academy Comes Up Short

If Victory Christian Academy was riding high fresh off their 59-39 takedown of Davenport last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Victory Christian Academy Storm took a 58-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sebring Blue Streaks. The Storm were not able to make up for their loss to the Blue Streaks from their previous meeting back in December of 2021.

When it comes to explaining why Victory Christian Academy lost on Friday, don't look at Jade Grier. Despite the final result, she went 7 for 14 on her way to 22 points along with seven steals and five assists. Those seven steals gave Grier a new career-high. Bianca Barroso was another key player, putting up seven points and four steals.

It was another big night for Molly Jane Zwayer, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 boards for Sebring. Zwayer has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last 17 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Adriana Maldonado, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.

Victory Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Sebring, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-4.

Victory Christian Academy and Sebring could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Victory Christian Academy will square off against Trinity Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 158 places (206 vs. 48). Similarly, Sebring (ranked 244th) will meet DeSoto County (ranked 103rd) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
