Kansas State-bound offensive lineman led Century to Class AAA state title.
Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Andrew Leingang of
Century (Bismarck) is the 2020 MaxPreps North Dakota High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-5, 270-pound offensive lineman led the Patriots to a 9-0 record in the fall and the state's Class AAA state championship. For his efforts, he earned league and state player of the year awards.
In the championship game against Sheyenne, Leingang paved the way for running back Cade Garcia to run for 142 yards and a pair of scores as Century rolled to a 34-0 win. The Patriots hit their stride late in the season, winning the last seven contests by an average of 36 points per game.
Headed to Kansas State next year, Leingang helped Century go 22-0 over his final two seasons with back-to-back state crowns. He also participated in basketball and track and field.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released Jan. 29.
