Soccer Game Preview: Nation Ford vs. Fort Mill

The Nation Ford Falcons will venture away from home to challenge the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Nation Ford will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

Nation Ford is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Carolina's top teams: Clover, who was ranked 13th at the time (Nation Ford was ranked fifth). Nation Ford's defense stepped up to hand Clover a 1-0 shutout on Friday. Give Nation Ford's defense some credit: that's the team's sixth straight shutout.

Their one-goal win came courtesy of Reagan Nelson, who's now up to ten this season.

Meanwhile, Fort Mill had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.7 goals) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 2-0. Viviana Montauti had to tread lightly for part of the match after she was hit with a yellow card, but that was the only trouble Fort Mill got from the refs.

Fort Mill used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Indian Land. Three players got more time on the pitch than they're used to: Jasalyn Cash (80), Baxley Hunsucker (53), and Julia Allwes (80). The trio had averaged 37.9, 28.6, and 50.3 minutes respectively before Friday's matchup. Hunsucker made the most of the opportunity, scoring a goal A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.

Nation Ford pushed their record up to 11-2-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those five contests. As for Fort Mill, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
