Softball Recap: Clinton Gets the Win

Clinton lost to Whiteford back in June of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Redskins walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Bobcats. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Redskins.

Lola Szczesniak was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Szczesniak was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Mya Popkey and Kylinn Long did most of the damage at the plate: Popkey went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI, while Long went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Those two doubles gave Popkey a new career-high. Ashlynn Benschoter was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Clinton's win bumped their record up to 16-4. As for Whiteford, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-9.

Looking ahead, Clinton will head out to challenge Allen Park at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday. The Redskins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jaguars have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season. As for Whiteford, they will host Stoney Creek at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday. The Bobcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
