Baseball Recap: Fairfield Has No Trouble Against St. Joseph Central

Fairfield barely beat St. Joseph Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lions put the hurt on the Flyers with a sharp 7-1 victory on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Flyers: they've now won three in a row.

Corbin Willey was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Willey was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Fairfield's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 5-1 (and 5-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Zane Matthews was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Fairfield: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 6-8 otherwise. Blaine Fauber was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Fairfield now has a winning record of 10-9. As for St. Joseph Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.
