Football Recap: Monarch Skates Past Fort Lauderdale with Ease

Monarch never let their opponents score on Thursday. They really took it to the Fort Lauderdale Flying L for the full four quarters, racking up a 54-0 win. That 54 point margin sets a new team best for the Knights this season.

Florentino Lopez produced another solid effort throwing for 434 yards and five touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 310.4 passing yards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaborree Riggins, who picked up 192 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Another reason for the win was Monarch's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Dasean Miller was especially locked on to Fort Lauderdale's QB and sacked him twice. Miller also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with eight. Monarch got some further help from Jayden Joselin: he made eight total tackles (2.0 for loss) and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Monarch, racking up 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Wallace McIntosh, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Monarch now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Fort Lauderdale, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Monarch will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Chaminade-Madonna at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,217 yards in their previous games. As for Fort Lauderdale, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 21-6 defeat against Cooper City on the 25th.
