Baseball Recap: Maine South Snags Ninth Victory in Last 11 Games

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Maine South walked away with it. They came out on top against the New Trier Trevians by a score of 4-1 on Saturday. This was a revenge game for the Hawks: when they faced off against the Trevians back in May, they had to take a 3-0 defeat.

Jack Gianikos tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over 6.1 innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Evan Adamczewski was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double. Eric Fugate was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Maine South is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 23-16 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for New Trier, their loss ended a 13-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 29-8-1.

Looking ahead, Maine South will face off against Libertyville at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight. New Trier does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
