Some of the names on the roster are different, but Roselle Catholic is once again teeming with talent. The key newcomer is
Isaiah Briscoe, a transfer from St. Benedict, who is one of the nation’s top junior point guards. Big man
Chris Silva, who has attracted attention from Syracuse, will be a key contributor to the frontcourt.
2. St. Joseph (Metuchen)Head coach: Dave Turco
2012-2013 finish: 27-5, Non-Public Group A champions
St. Joseph captured a Non-Public A state title last season before falling in the Tournament of Champions final. This year, with a roster that boasts the likes of Kentucky commit
Karl Towns Jr. and returning all-state selection
Wade Baldwin, Dave Turco’s squad could be back playing for a TOC title in March.
3. St. Anthony (Jersey City)Head coach: Bob Hurley
2012-2013 finish: 28-2
There are a lot of positive vibes around St. Anthony this winter, as the school recently launched a major capital campaign,
St. Anthony 2020. The school’s basketball team, as always, is another source for excitement. Senior guards
Cheddi Mosely and
Tarin Smith should carry this year’s version of the Friars.
4. Patrick School (Elizabeth)Head coach: Chris Chavannes
2012-2013 finish: 24-4
Third-year head coach Chris Chavannes looks to improve on what was a very good 2012-13 campaign, looking to re-establish the program as a national power. Point guard
Bryce Aiken, who comes to Patrick School after playing last season at Pope John XXIII, will spark the team’s offense. Expectations are high for 6-foot-10 freshman
Bul Bior Ajang.
5. St. Peter's Prep (Jersey City)Head coach: Todd Decker
2012-2013 finish: 23-7
After earning a berth in the Non-Public A finals last year, the Marauders could be even better this season. Guard
Austin White, one of the team’s leading scorers last year, returns alongside key newcomers
Amarveer Singh, a sophomore with a Villanova offer, and ballyhooed freshman
Nate Pierre-Louis.
