Volleyball Recap: Independence Starts Season with Win Against Kennedy + How To Watch

Independence gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Kennedy Thunderbirds. That's more bragging rights for the Falcons, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

While Independence won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-22, 25-20.

Independence's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emiko Capuchino, who had 15 digs and one assist. Those 15 digs gave Capuchino a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aria Moreno, who had nine digs and two aces.

Kennedy is on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Independence has already played their next contest (against Foothill), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Kennedy will be paying especially close attention to the Falcons' game: after the Falcons face off against the Trojans, they'll take on Kennedy again at 8:00 a.m. on Friday.
