Softball Recap: Isabella Furness and Morgan Henderson Secure Win for Academy of the New Church

Academy of the New Church's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They never let the Friends Select Falcons get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by nine runs or more this season.

Jamie Madara made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games she's played.

In other batting news, Morgan Henderson and Isabella Furness did most of the damage at the plate: Henderson went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Furness went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Furness has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Olivia Schriver, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Academy of the New Church's victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Friends Select, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-5.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Academy of the New Church is set to challenge their familiar foe Shipley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Friends Select will take on rival Friends' Central at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
