Basketball Game Preview: Iowa Colony Pioneers vs. Angleton Wildcats

The Iowa Colony Pioneers and the Angleton Wildcats will compete for holiday cheer at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Iowa Colony will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Iowa Colony will head into Tuesday's contest hoping to keep the good times rolling: they proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 21) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. It was close, but they ultimately received the gift of a 51-48 win from a begrudging Pioneers squad.

Iowa Colony got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Eryn Roberts out in front who went 10 of 21 on her way to 20 points and five rebounds. Roberts' evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Rogers, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards.

Iowa Colony smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 19 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Angleton over Lamar Consolidated in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Angleton blew past Lamar Consolidated 59-38. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 458th, while the Mustangs are ranked 1311th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Iowa Colony is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points per game. As for Angleton, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5.

Iowa Colony was able to grind out a solid victory over Angleton when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 24-15. Does Iowa Colony have another victory up their sleeve, or will Angleton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
