Baseball Recap: St. Cloud Cathedral Extends Home Winning Streak to 21

There's no place like home for St. Cloud Cathedral, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Melrose Dutchmen 3-1. The Crusaders haven't had any issues with the Dutchmen recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Jack Hamak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, St. Cloud Cathedral's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Caden Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

St. Cloud Cathedral pushed their record up to 22-6 with the win, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Melrose, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Looking ahead, St. Cloud Cathedral will welcome St. Michael-Albertville at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Crusaders 2.4, the Knights 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Melrose, they will square off against West Central Area at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Dutchmen are facing the Knights at the right time seeing as the Knights are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
