Basketball Recap: Van Horn Takes a Loss

Van Horn lost against Wink back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Van Horn Eagles took a blow against the Wink Wildcats, falling 68-20. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-12.

When it comes to explaining why Van Horn lost, don't look at Joey Anchondo. Despite the final result, he posted six points.

Wink found their leader in sophomore Layne Lusby, who went 8 of 9 on his way to 19 points and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lusby has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Cahill, who scored nine points in addition to seven boards and five steals.

Van Horn is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-12. As for Wink, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 17-9.

Van Horn will challenge El Paso HomeSchool at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Van Horn is facing El Paso HomeSchool at the right time seeing as El Paso HomeSchool is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Wink, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 52-44 victory against Iraan on the 27th.
