Baseball Recap: St. Agnes Snaps Seven-Game Streak of Wins at Home

St. Agnes dropped their record down to 1-3 on Saturday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They lost 12-5 to the Southwest Christian Stars. The Aggies were not able to make up for their defeat to the Stars from their previous meeting back in June of 2015.

Louis Berthiaume made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Danny Plamann, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Southwest Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-2. That seven run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

On Southwest Christian's side, Jimmy Dahlen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Dahlen was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Ben Lindberg and Melvin Maldonado did most of the damage at the plate: Lindberg went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Maldonado went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Lindberg a new career-high. Cruz Winegarden was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Agnes will challenge St. Croix Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Southwest Christian, they will head out to square off against Holy Family Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
