Volleyball Recap: John Curtis Christian Falls Short Against Ranked Newman

John Curtis Christian faced Newman in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Patriots fell just short of the Greenies by a score of 2-1. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Greenies apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, John Curtis Christian sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 20-25, 15-13.

Makayla Morter paced John Curtis Christian's offense, picking up ten kills. Morter got some help from Alyzia Cola- Grayson and her 22 assists. Morter also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Ina Smith, each putting up two.

John Curtis Christian's loss dropped their record down to 26-11. As for Newman, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-9 record this season.

John Curtis Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Thomas Jefferson on the 28th. As for Newman, they have also already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Berwick on the 27th.
