Softball Game Preview: Kirtland Hornets vs. Perry Pirates

The Kirtland Hornets will face off against the Perry Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Kirtland is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Saturday. They put the hurt on Lakeside with a sharp 14-4 win.

Kirtland got a massive performance out of Maggie Kothera, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Kothera has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Seirra Godfrey, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Perry got the win against Milwaukee Reagan on Thursday by a conclusive 11-1.

Sophie Sivon was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Perry let Elise Strahan and Sydney Collins run wild. Strahan went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Collins went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three doubles, and two RBI. Those hits were Collins' first of the season. Rosalyn Tharp was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

Perry always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Milwaukee Reagan only posted an OBP of .316.
