Softball Game Preview: Toll Gate Titans vs. Mt. Hope Huskies

The Toll Gate Titans are taking a road trip to challenge the Mt. Hope Huskies at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Toll Gate will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Toll Gate had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Exeter-West Greenwich on Friday. The Titans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Scarlet Knights a 15-0 shutout. The Titans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Reagan Motta made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Motta was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Toll Gate let Abbi O'Connor and Liv Cota run wild. O'Connor scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Cota scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. O'Connor also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ava DelVicario, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Toll Gate was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Mt. Hope came up short against Davies Career & Tech on Friday and fell 11-7. The Huskies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Hailey Ferriera made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Waddell, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Toll Gate's win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-2. As for Mt. Hope, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Toll Gate came out on top in a nail-biter against Mt. Hope when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Titans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Huskies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
