Baseball Recap: East Lincoln Makes It Four in a Row at Home

East Lincoln had won four straight at home, but on Tuesday they bumped their record up to 14-5 to make it five. They had just enough and edged out the West Iredell Warriors 11-10. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won seven in a row.

East Lincoln got a massive performance out of Evan Matile, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Matile has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Phuntek, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: East Lincoln kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matches.

As for West Iredell, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. They have struggled against East Lincoln recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

On West Iredell's side, they got a good showing from Freeman Wallace, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits Wallace has allowed since back in March.

At the plate, Trae Clyburn stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 2-for-5 with four RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Damien Sharpe, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.

Looking ahead, East Lincoln will face off against East Rutherford at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cavaliers will roll in looking for their 19th straight victory, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight. West Iredell will be paying especially close attention to East Lincoln's game: after East Lincoln faces off against East Rutherford, they'll take on West Iredell again at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
