Basketball Game Preview: Villa Madonna Vikings vs. Dixie Heights Colonels

Villa Madonna is 0-10 against Dixie Heights since December of 2015 but things could change on Wednesday. The Villa Madonna Vikings will venture away from home to face off against the Dixie Heights Colonels at 7:30 p.m. Villa Madonna will be strutting in after a win while Dixie Heights will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with eight losses in a row, Villa Madonna turned things around against Dayton on Monday. They secured a 34-28 W over the Greendevils.

Villa Madonna's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jay Meyers, who posted six points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks. Meyers is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Michael J. R. Popham, who had eight points and nine boards.

Meanwhile, Dixie Heights managed to keep up with Lloyd Memorial until halftime on Tuesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Dixie Heights came up short against Lloyd Memorial, falling 52-31. The Colonels have struggled against the Juggernauts recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Villa Madonna's win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-16. As for Dixie Heights, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-4.

Villa Madonna took a serious blow against Dixie Heights when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 68-31. Can Villa Madonna avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
