Basketball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Concord

Concord waltzed into their contest on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They enjoyed a cozy 49-33 win over the Sturgis Trojans. The Yellowjackets pushed the score to 43-18 by the end of the third, a deficit the Trojans cut but never quite recovered from.

Concord was led to victory by Connor Stevens and Jett Smith. Stevens dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Smith went 5 for 10 en route to 11 points in addition to six assists and three steals. The match was Stevens' fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Darrell Dean Jr., who posted six points and three steals.

Concord is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.5 points per game. As for Sturgis, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Concord and Sturgis could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. Concord will take on Stockbridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday down 179 places (319 vs. 140). Meanwhile, Sturgis (ranked 436th) will meet Berrien Springs (ranked 97th) at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
