League recap: Stone stuns South Jones in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Stone, who took down 92nd ranked South Jones, 28-20.

Wayne County extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 3 this week by beating Brookhaven, 17-15. The win marks eighth in a row for the the War Eagles.

The Panthers' dynamic duo of Fred Trevillion and Genoa Sartin proved tough for Wayne County to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Trevillion threw for 42 yards and one touchdown and Sartin had 105 yards receiving. Trevillion helped Brookhaven's passing attack out by catching two balls for 13 yards.

Ladorean Oliver provided a threat through the air and on the ground as West Jones topped McComb. He completed three passes for 30 yards and also ran for 64 yards. Oliver's favorite target this week was Joshua Stamps, who caught one pass for 20 yards.

D.J. Sanders was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 67 yards as the Mustangs fell to Todd Mangum's team.

5-foot-11 quarterback Michael Roberson of Pearl is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1192. He has also thrown nine touchdowns. On the ground, West Jones' Trey Keyes has rushed for 964 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Quatavious Smith. The McComb star has 36 catches for 708 yards.

Justin Blue of the Tommy Clopton's team is only 78 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 119 carries Blue has accumulated 922 yard this year.

A big matchup in 5A Region 3 this week will be when the Tomcats take on the War Eagles. Stone is currently in fifth, while Wayne County is in first.

The Tomcats made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,748 from 5,553. The improvement was the result of 28-20 victory over South Jones last week.
