Basketball Recap: Carter Jude's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Belfry over Prestonsburg

Belfry was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a hard 79-62 fall against the Prestonsburg Blackcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pirates of the 68-56 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Carter Jude, who went 9 of 16 on his way to 22 points. Those 22 points gave Jude a new career-high. Brody Little was another key player, putting up 16 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Belfry's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Prestonsburg, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.

Belfry has already played their next contest (against Mingo Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Prestonsburg won't have much time to rest: their next match is against East Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Prestonsburg knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 12 games -- so hopefully East Ridge likes a good challenge.
