Football Recap: Bluffton's Undefeated Season over After Five Games

If Bluffton was riding high fresh off their 31-7 takedown of Hampton County last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bobcats received a blow on Friday as they fell 35-20 to the Lucy Beckham Bengals. The Bobcats gained 85 more yards on the day, but it was the Bengals that made the best use of them.

Defeat or not, Bluffton got some senior leadership from Aedan McCarthy and Carnell Warren. McCarthy threw for 365 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 75.8% of his passes, while Warren picked up 166 receiving yards and two scores. Warren was no stranger to the big play, connecting on a big catch that went for 61 yards. A healthy portion of McCarthy's aerial production (84 yards to be exact) also went to Amare Patterson.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lucy Beckham to victory, but perhaps none more so than Finn Gunter, who rushed for 51 yards and one TD.

Having lost for the first time this season, Bluffton fell to 4-1. As for Lucy Beckham, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Bluffton and Lucy Beckham will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Bobcats are set to face off against their familiar foe Hilton Head Island at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Lucy Beckham will challenge rival Cane Bay at 7:30 p.m. on October 3.
