Baseball Game Preview: Roane County Yellowjackets vs. Sweetwater Wildcats

Roane County hasn't had much luck against Sweetwater recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Roane County is taking a road trip to face off against Sweetwater at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Roane County sitting on four straight wins and Sweetwater on nine.

Roane County's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Harriman.

Blake Herrell was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Keylon White also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Roane County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in four consecutive games.

The home team had won the previous six meetings between Sweetwater and Maryville Christian, and Sweetwater kept the tradition alive. Sweetwater walked away with a 9-4 victory over Maryville Christian on Saturday.

Sweetwater pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Roane County, their record now sits at 10-3-1.

Roane County came up short against Sweetwater in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 4-0. Can Roane County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
