Volleyball Game Preview: Shelby County Rockets vs. Western Hills Wolverines

The Shelby County Rockets will head out on the road to square off against the Western Hills Wolverines at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Shelby County can't be to happy about their upcoming road game considering what happened when they opened their season on the away from home last Friday. They came up short against Ryle, falling 3-0. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it eight in a row.

Meanwhile, Western Hills didn't have quite enough to beat Lafayette on Thursday and fell 3-2. While the Wolverines didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Generals 25-14 in the first set.

Western Hills wouldn't go down easily and took Lafayette into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking five-point loss. The final score came out to 14-25, 25-17, 25-18, 16-25, 15-10.

Despite the defeat, Western Hills saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ben Bayes had nine digs and four aces.

Even though they lost, Western Hills was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces every time they've taken the court this season.

Shelby County couldn't quite get it done against Western Hills in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 2-0. Can Shelby County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
