Softball Recap: Cuba-Rushford Takes a Loss

Cuba-Rushford extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-3 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-9 heartbreaker at the hands of the Fillmore Eagles. The Rebels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Aubrey Williams was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Fillmore, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games.

On Fillmore's side, Mylee Miller was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off seven hits. Miller has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Morghyn Ross was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Tenlee Miller, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cuba-Rushford will take on Bolivar-Richburg at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolverines will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Rebels surely won't give up without a fight. As for Fillmore, they will square off against Arkport Central at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Bluejays have now posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.
