The Hertford County Bears will be defending their home-field for the first time for the first time when they go up against the Tarboro Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Hertford County is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Gates County. Hertford County strolled past Gates County with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 26-12.

Meanwhile, Tarboro took care of business in their home opener on Friday (and then some). They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Rocky Mount 30-0 at home. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Gryphons are ranked 178th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mason Satterfield was a one-man wrecking crew for Tarboro as he rushed for 92 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Another player making a difference was Tyler Powell, who threw for 120 yards and two touchdowns on only six passes.

Tarboro was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 447 total yards. That's the most total yards they've posted since back in October of 2023.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Tarboro's defense and their four sacks. Rocky Mount's QB won't forget Powell anytime soon given he sacked him three times.
