Recap: Rocky Ford Meloneers vs. Swallows Charter Academy Spartans
The Rocky Ford Meloneers came into Tuesday's game having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Swallows Charter Academy by a score of 58-47 on Tuesday. Rocky Ford's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Isaiah Vazquez-Gallegos went supernova for Rocky Ford, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Marchand-Fierro, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Swallows Charter Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Garcia, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Garcia has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times he's played. Charles Perry was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Rocky Ford's victory ended a 13-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-14. As for Swallows Charter Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season.
Rocky Ford will head out on the road to square off against Calhan at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Calhan is on a four-game streak of home losses, Rocky Ford a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Swallows Charter Academy will take on Las Animas at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Las Animas is facing Swallows Charter Academy at the right time seeing as Swallows Charter Academy is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
