Baseball Game Preview: Oakmont Vikings vs. Pioneer Patriots

The Oakmont Vikings will square off against the Pioneer Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Oakmont is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.

Oakmont is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They never let Antelope get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. Considering the Vikings have won 13 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jaylan Patterson tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over 4.2 innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Cooper Kunis was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Zayne Ball, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Oakmont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Pioneer was able to grind out a solid win over Patterson on Wednesday, taking the game 8-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.

Oakmont's victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Pioneer, their victory bumped their record up to 15-10.

Oakmont came out on top in a nail-biter against Pioneer in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
