Softball Recap: Porter Ridge Takes a Loss

Porter Ridge had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 7-9 to make it four. They fell 7-2 to the Marvin Ridge Mavericks. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Pirates couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Marvin Ridge, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.

For Marvin Ridge's part, Anna Phifer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits. Phifer has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Marvin Ridge let Julia D'Amico and Hannah Ziecik run wild. D'Amico fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3, while Ziecik went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two home runs gave D'Amico a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addison Studney, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Porter Ridge wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 13-2 loss against Weddington on the 8th. As for Marvin Ridge, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 6-2 win against Cuthbertson on the 8th.
