Baseball Recap: Peebles Triumphs

Peebles took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Eastern, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Indians sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Eagles on Friday. This was payback for the Indians, who suffered an 11-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Brandon Rayburn and Bo Johnson made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Rayburn struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. Meanwhile, Johnson tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Those six strikeouts gave Rayburn a new career-high. At bat, Rayburn went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Johnson went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Peebles is undefeated when Johnson posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-11 otherwise.

The win made it two in a row for Peebles and bumps their season record up to 5-11. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Eastern, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Peebles will venture away from home to square off against Eastern at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for the Eagles, they will head out to face off against Manchester at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
