Recap: Severance Silver Knights vs. Holy Family Tigers

The Severance Silver Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of Holy Family by a score of 54-52. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Severance in their matchups with Holy Family: they've now lost five in a row.

Severance lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brady Varney, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. The match was Varney's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Ryan Ewoniuk was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.

Joseph Portillo jr was his usual excellent self, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds for Holy Family. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe Tafoya, who scored 13 points along with seven assists and five rebounds.

Severance's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-3. As for Holy Family, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Severance won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. on December 12th. Allowing an average of 60 points per game, Mountain View has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this matchup. Holy Family's road trip will continue as they head out to face University at 7:00 p.m. on December 14th. One thing working in University's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
