After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Bertie brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They were the clear victors by a 23-5 margin over the Southeast Halifax Trojans on Monday. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Cierstyn Langely was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. Langely was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Bertie got a massive performance out of Kiedan Perry, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Alyvia Akkerman, who scored three runs while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
The win snapped Bertie's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-8 record. As for Southeast Halifax, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bertie will take on Martin County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Martin County will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something Bertie surely won't give up without a fight. As for Southeast Halifax, they will square off against Northwest Halifax at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northwest Halifax has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.75 runs per game on average), something Southeast Halifax will no doubt try to take advantage of.
