Basketball Recap: Make It Six in a Row for Corvian Community

With a playoff win on the line, Corvian Community rose to the challenge on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 58-55 win over the Southern Wake Academy Lions. The victory was familiar territory for the Cardinals, who have now won six contests in a row.

RJ Moore Jr. was his usual excellent self, shooting 5-for-7 from deep and almost dropping a double-double with 26 points and nine boards. His afternoon made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Malachi McCutcheon was another key player, going 7-for-14 to rack up 15 points in addition to six rebounds and three blocks.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bryan Epperson, who shot 75% from the field en route to 15 points along with seven boards and three blocks. Epperson is on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 56% in the last 12 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kobe Plata, who went 6-for-10 on his way to 19 points.

Corvian Community's win bumped their record up to 25-7. As for Southern Wake Academy, with the loss, they broke their 15-game winning streak and moved their record to 29-5.

As of now, neither Corvian Community nor Southern Wake Academy have any future games scheduled.
