The McDaniel Mountain Lions will head out to take on the Grant Generals at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. McDaniel has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
McDaniel came into their game on Wednesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Cleveland, falling 13-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Mountain Lions have suffered since March 19th.
Kaylie Schmitz was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Grant came tearing into Wednesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Roughriders as they made off with a 15-6 victory.
Hazel Heron was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
In other batting news, Anya Rumage was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Gwyn Gerber, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Grant's record now sits at 11-7. As for McDaniel, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 12-9 record.
McDaniel couldn't quite get it done against Grant in their previous matchup two weeks ago as they fell 10-6. Can the Mountain Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
