Basketball Recap: Ashley Screaming Eagle vs. South Brunswick Cougars

The Ashley Screaming Eagle can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They took down South Brunswick 51-34. The victory was just what Ashley needed coming off of a 77-37 defeat in their prior game.

Ashley found their leader in underclassman Keyon Jones, who scored 14 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Talan Groseclose, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.

Despite the loss, South Brunswick saw an underclassman step up: Ziyon Smith scored 15 points.

Ashley's win bumped their record up to 5-14. As for South Brunswick, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost 12 of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season.

Ashley will head out on the road to face off against the Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Laney is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 59.9 points per game this season. As for South Brunswick, they will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. New Hanover will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
