Two dominant signal callers in Joe Yoney JR and Cameron Hackworth are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mohave Thunderbirds will be playing at home against the Sabino Sabercats at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mohave will be looking to keep their nine-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
With a playoff game on the line, Mohave rose to the challenge on Thursday. They blew past Blue Ridge 54-14 at home. The result was nothing new for Mohave, who have now won eight contests by 28 points or more so far this season.
Mohave found their leader in underclassman Yoney JR, who rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries, and also threw for 137 yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Isac Urias, who gained 82 total yards and four touchdowns.
Sabino aren't just finding sucess at home, as their game on Thursday extended their overall winning streak to three. They walked away with a 28-20 win over Round Valley.
It was another big night for Hackworth, who rushed for 151 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries, and also threw for 218 yards and a touchdown while completing 75% of his passes. Hackworth was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 67 yards. Zachary Binford-Wiggins and his 87 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Sabino's win.
Their wins bumped Mohave to 11-1 and Sabino to 9-3.
Mohave came up short against Sabino in their previous meeting back in October, falling 34-29. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sabino's Hackworth, who rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries, and also threw for 268 yards and two touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes. Now that Mohave knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
