Basketball Game Preview: Wahpeton Huskies vs. Devils Lake Firebirds

The Wahpeton Huskies will face off against the Devils Lake Firebirds at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Wahpeton sitting on five straight victories and Devils Lake on 25 (dating back to last season).

Last Tuesday, Wahpeton made easy work of Oak Grove Lutheran and carried off a 71-47 win. The Huskies have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Devils Lake faced Four Winds/Minnewaukan in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Devils Lake strolled past Four Winds/Minnewaukan with points to spare, taking the game 71-53.

Devils Lake's victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 33.6 points. As for Wahpeton, their win bumped their record up to 10-6.

Wahpeton might still be hurting after the 71-48 loss they got from Devils Lake in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Wahpeton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
