Softball Recap: Oxnard Yellowjackets vs. Rio Mesa Spartans
Oxnard extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 16-9-1 in the process. They fell 5-2 to the Rio Mesa Spartans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-4 on Tuesday.
Natalie Rodarte made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Rachel Godoy was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
As for Rio Mesa, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-9. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games.
On Rio Mesa's side, Analia Lopez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off nine hits. Lopez has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Roman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
Coming up, Oxnard will welcome Pacifica at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Rio Mesa does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
