St. Andrew's Episcopal suffers fourth straight loss on the road

Recap: St. Andrew's Episcopal Saints vs. Velma Jackson Falcons

The St. Andrew's Episcopal Saints's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They fell 54-43 to Velma Jackson. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for St. Andrew's Episcopal in their matchups with Velma Jackson: they've now lost four in a row.

Several Saints players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Drew McDonald, who scored eight points along with six steals. Justin Lindsay was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six blocks and five rebounds.

Velma Jackson was led to victory by Cameron Tate and Cornell Bacon. Tate scored 17 points along with four steals, while Bacon dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Bacon continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jamarquez Davis, who scored seven points.

St. Andrew's Episcopal's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-8. As for Velma Jackson, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season.

St. Andrew's Episcopal will finish 2023 at home by hosting Jefferson County at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Velma Jackson will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Pascagoula at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Pascagoula knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully Velma Jackson likes a good challenge.
