Baseball Game Preview: Cigarroa Toros vs. Carrizo Springs Wildcats

The Cigarroa Toros will venture away from home to face off against the Carrizo Springs Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cigarroa is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.

Last Friday, Cigarroa came up short against Roma and fell 6-1.

Chris Olguin was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.

Olguin wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Valentin Barrios, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Eric Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Carrizo Springs suffered their closest loss since April 12, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of Uvalde by a score of 4-2. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mathan Cruz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits.

Carrizo Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 12-4. As for Cigarroa, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.

Cigarroa skirted past Carrizo Springs 7-6 in their previous matchup back in March of 2019. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cigarroa since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
