The Archbishop Carroll Patriots will take on the Archbishop Ryan Raiders and Ragdolls at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Archbishop Carroll took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Lansdale Catholic 2-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Matt McGaughey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nick Gilroy, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Archbishop Ryan was able to grind out a solid victory over St. Joseph's Prep on Wednesday, taking the game 7-2.
Dave Perez was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other pitching news, Sean Cahill looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Archbishop Ryan is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 1-2 otherwise.
Perez wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Flash Krzywicki, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Archbishop Ryan has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Archbishop Carroll, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-4.
Archbishop Carroll came up short against Archbishop Ryan in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 4-0. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
