Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon Takes a Loss

Mt. Vernon lost to Greenfield-Central back in May of 2025 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Marauders fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 2-1.

Gavin Weaver spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up six Ks. He has become a key player for Mt. Vernon: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Mason Meyer made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double.

Mt. Vernon now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Greenfield-Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.

While Mt. Vernon had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
