Baseball Game Preview: Covina Colts vs. West Covina Bulldogs

The Covina Colts will head out to challenge the West Covina Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Covina has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with five straight losses, while West Covina will come in with three straight wins.

It looked like the Kentucky Derby when Covina took on Costa Mesa on Saturday. The Colts fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 8-7.

Lucas Thorpe was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Donavan Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, while West Covina put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Rowland. The Bulldogs came out on top against the Raiders by a score of 3-0.

Max Murillo made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because West Covina is 6-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise. Murillo was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.

Murillo wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Griffey Moncada, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

West Covina hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive games.

West Covina's record is now 13-9. As for Covina, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.
