Baseball Recap: Salpointe Catholic Lancers vs. Jesuit Marauders
Salpointe Catholic was the 5-1 winner over Jesuit when they last played one another back in March of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Lancers fell just short of the Marauders by a score of 6-5 on Tuesday. That's two games in a row now that the Lancers have lost by just one run.
Sam Meisner was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March.
At the plate, Paul Saffer and Dane White stepped up to the plate in a big way. Saffer scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while White scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Raetzman, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
This is the second loss in a row for Salpointe Catholic and nudges their season record down to 17-2-1. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Jesuit, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Salpointe Catholic will head out to square off against Mica Mountain at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Jesuit, they will venture away from home to challenge Whitney at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Marauders' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
